Essentially it is a nice old pub that happens to offer a few rooms. The facilities are basic and clean, although some things are rather antique, such as TV and the kettle. The location is excellent, but there is only one decent place in the whole town to have a proper meal. On the whole exceptional value for money.

it was just what i was looking close to all the friends i was visiting over the two days.
Your web site says the hotel served food yet it doesn't this was a bit inconvenient to say the least.

Friendly staff, very helpful, good atmosphere in the pub at night. Cheap drinks. Excellent full English breakfast in the morning.
Nothing bad to say - rooms basic got everything you need, clean and tidy.

Excellent atmosphere (good music/friendly crowd) on Sat pm in pub.
Rather delapidated exterior. Litter around the guests' access door.

I liked the atmosphere in the bar at the hotel. All locals seem to be gathering there on weekends and singing, dancing and drinking - was lots of fun to get involved in it.

Staff courteous, though were serving in the bar(on arrival) or cleaning(departure) so we had to find them. Water hot. Beds basic but comfortable.
No food available. Musty smell in corridor. Carpets/decor/equipment in dire need of repair and refurbishment.

Simple old-fashioned pub with friendly staff and decent rooms. Fine for a business trip etc.

The room needed a thorough clean, there were drip marks under the window down the wall and on the kick board, the dust around the plug socket and mirror was thick. Cushions were thrown into a space in the open wardrobe, the room felt dirty. The shower broke down, after using it once. The corridor to the room needed a good clean and hoover. The breakfast was served well, but we decided not to stay a second night, and we received a full refund for that night. I would not recommend The Red Lion to other travellers. : The only good feature was that the bed was comfortable, and the sheets were clean although there were two duvets thrown across the bed in a haphazard way, which did not look inviting.

For the price a b&b would be far superior.

The staff and locals are very friendly and welcoming.
The area around and leading up to the accommodation is not very welcoming and the stairs needs repairing as I thought I was going to fall through them! However, overall it is good value for money.
